Lifelong Education

As indicated on the website of the Office of the Registrar, "Lifelong Education enrollment status is designed to provide anyone who is not currently pursuing a degree at Michigan State University access to Michigan State University courses. It is important to note that Lifelong Education is not a college, a major, or an office on campus. It is an enrollment status and the term Lifelong Education is applied to students who are not pursuing a university degree...

"Students enrolling under the Lifelong Education enrollment status should complete the application available on the web at https://admissions.msu.edu/application/app.asp?AL=L. Select either "New Application," or "Saved Application.

"The Lifelong Education enrollment status permits and facilitates access to Michigan State University courses and workshops (on-campus, off-campus, online, and Study Abroad) for persons not wishing to pursue an undergraduate or graduate Michigan State University degree.

"To learn more about Graduate Lifelong Education, please visit the website of the Office of the Registrar: https://reg.msu.edu/ROInfo/EnrReg/LifelongEducation.aspx."

Enrolling in MPH Courses as a Lifelong Education Student

Lifelong Education students must request an override to gain access to any course offered by the Master of Public Health program.  A list of the courses we offer, along with course descriptions, can be found on our New Master of Public Health Program Requirements page.  Please note the following restrictions:

  • Priority enrollment is given to MPH and Core Disciplines of Public Health graduate certificate students.
  • We do not grant overrides into full sections under any circumstance.

To request an override into a course offered by the Master of Public Health program, Lifelong education students are required to e-mail MPH Overrides the following information:

  • Full name (first and last)
  • E-mail address
  • APID
  • Course and section number
  • Semester/year of desired enrollment
  • Attach a copy of all post-secondary transcripts
  • Provide a short statement explaining interest in taking the course (no longer than one page)

The override request will be reviewed and a decision will be sent via e-mail.
