Public Health Administration

Public Health Administration
(Major code: 2845)

When there is an outbreak of food borne illness, local water becomes contaminated, or a severe influenza strikes a community, a public health administrator needs to know. They need to be informed, address the media, and respond with a plan of action to protect the community. When emergencies are not happening, public health administrators evaluate their community by assessing risks to health, for example, looking at toxins in the environment or the incidence of sexually transmitted diseases. They implement programs to address these types of risks, along with chronic diseases; maternal, child and family health; and a variety of other public health initiatives.
