Why Flint?
“Exceptional academics want to be where other exceptional academics are. Among the four Flint research faculty, we left an Ivy League university (Dr. Johnson), the number one public health school in the country (Dr. Furr-Holden), the number four public health school in the country (Dr. Neighbors), and a well-respected Canadian university (Dr. Sadler) to come to Flint, and we are all thrilled to do it.
This has gotten many people asking, “What in the world is going on out there in Flint?” and has gotten many others from our respective previous institutions and personal networks caring and noticing what happens in Flint. Michigan State University, in Flint, has hired well-respected researchers because Flint has incredible community partners – arguably the best in the country. We will continue to explain to others how Flint is fantastic. And, because all of us are here (the researchers and their formidable community partners), we will continue to attract the best and brightest to want to come to Flint to be part of what is going on here.”
